What an alignment appointment checks

Alignment compares wheel geometry with the vehicle manufacturer’s specification and adjusts it where possible. Uneven wear, a steering wheel that is not centred, or a tendency to pull can justify an assessment. These observations are clues, not proof that an alignment adjustment alone will solve the problem.

Ask whether the quote is for measurement only or includes adjustment, and whether a before-and-after report will be supplied. Mention a recent kerb impact or suspension work when booking.

What balancing changes

Balancing equipment measures uneven weight distribution in the wheel and tyre assembly so it can be corrected. Continental recommends rebalancing when a tyre is refitted to a wheel. Vibration is a reason to request assessment; it does not identify the cause by itself.

Record when the vibration appears: a particular speed range, braking, acceleration or shortly after new tyres were fitted. Give that account to the technician instead of ordering multiple services without an inspection.

Make the booking specific

A new tyre quotation may include balancing but list alignment separately. Ask for the included operations in writing and confirm whether all wheels are covered. If an inspection identifies worn or damaged components, request an explanation and revised scope before approving additional work.

• For a pull or uneven wear: describe the direction and wear location, and request geometry assessment.
• For vibration: give the speed and conditions when it occurs, including any recent tyre work.
• For replacement tyres: confirm fitting and balancing, and ask whether an alignment check is appropriate.
• For repeat symptoms: share the last job report so the same work is not ordered without investigation.

Confirm where the work can be completed

Alignment needs suitable measuring equipment and working conditions. Confirm the fitting location with the advisor rather than assuming every mobile tyre appointment includes alignment. Share your vehicle model, any wheel or suspension changes and your preferred area so the booking can be matched to the required work.
