Mobile Mechanic or Workshop: How to Plan Your Booking
By 800 Motor · Updated
The right service location depends on the job, vehicle access and equipment required. Share the problem and parking details first, then confirm whether the work can be completed on site or needs a workshop.
When to ask about a mobile appointment
For a battery concern or tyre enquiry, an on-site assessment may be convenient when the vehicle is parked accessibly. Describe the job before reserving an appointment: a battery that needs testing, a puncture that needs inspecting and a confirmed replacement part require different preparation.
Supply a location pin, parking level, access instructions and a contact number. Mention entry permission, vehicle height restrictions and space around the car. Ask the advisor to confirm whether the site is suitable, what equipment will attend and whether the required parts are available.
When a workshop assessment may be needed
Some work needs equipment or conditions that cannot be assumed at a parking space. Wheel alignment, for example, uses specialist measuring equipment to check geometry against vehicle specifications. For other repairs, describe the work and ask whether lifting, dismantling, calibration or extended testing is expected.
If a mobile assessment identifies further work, ask for the findings, transport options and a separate repair quote. Clarify who will arrange the transfer and whether the vehicle can be driven or needs recovery; do not make that decision from a generic webpage.

Compare the whole appointment
Convenience depends on more than attendance. Ask when the assessment can begin, whether parts are confirmed, what happens if the job cannot be completed there and how follow-up work is handled. Confirm appointment availability for your existing service area; do not treat a location page as a live arrival-time promise.
- Mobile: confirm site access, attendance charges, work scope and any limitations.
- Workshop: confirm the receiving location, drop-off or transport arrangements and diagnostic stage.
- Either option: agree the total for authorised work and ask how additional findings will be quoted.
- Before handover: ask for the invoice, work record and applicable warranty terms.
Send one complete enquiry
Use a short message with the make, model, year, powertrain, symptoms, location and preferred time. Include tyre markings or a battery label where relevant and safe to photograph. If you have already had the issue inspected, attach that report so the advisor can understand what has been checked.
800 Motor’s existing battery, tyre and repair pages let you start with the service you need. The advisor can then confirm the appropriate booking arrangement for the vehicle and job.
